Description
Rare wooden twin figures. SENUFO/ELFENBEINKÜSTE, around 1900 or earlier. A female and a male figure stand next to each other on a narrow, rectangular and openwork carved pedestal. Characteristic are the towering coiffure crowns and the rings or beads around the neck, which are repeated in the middle of the body. Beautiful brown age patina, somewhat crusty in places. In the area of the face and the body there is a light blue coloring under the remains of a white chalk setting. Signs of age and damage, including to the lip, one arm broken. Compare in the literature: 'African Masks', New York, 1998, p. 14.
