About the product
Powder horn, Italy, 20th century, in the style of the 17th century. Curved wooden body with two decoratively etched and engraved brass plates on the front and back. Both show the twins Romulus and Remus being suckled by the she-wolf in a central medallion. The scene is surrounded by vegetal elements and scrollwork. Brass fittings, also decorated en suite with figurative and floral motifs. Brass eyelets attached to the sides with a braided leather strap. Total length: approx. 23.5 cm. Signs of age and rubbing, heavy wear in places, feather missing from the chute. PROVENANCE: South German private collection.
