Apulian red figure bell krater. SOUTHERN ITALY, ca. 400 B.C. Glossy varnish, raised areas in white. Depicted on one side is a kneeling Eros with hermaphrodite body forms and large, wide-open wings with white heightened feathers. In his left hand he holds a long taenie and in his raised right hand a large fan. On the opposite side the head of the goddess Proserpina, depicted looking to the left. Her hair is held together by a patterned cecryphalos and she wears a diadem, earrings and a necklace. Well preserved pottery, restored in parts, with a typical painting. Acquired in 1975 at the 'Kunsthaus Schaller' in Stuttgart.
