Description
A sandstone Torso of a female deity. Khmer/Baphuon, c. 11ct. AD. Beautifully crafted female torso made of light beige sandstone. The pleated skirt (sampot), held in place by a simple belt, reaches down to the waist at the back and is pulled down below the navel at the front. The central, hanging fold of the garment runs downwards in the shape of a fishtail. The hem is slightly flared at the bottom. The torso is attached to a simple base at the fragmentary preserved leg attachments. Height: without base 37 cm/with base 42.5 cm. Age-related weathering and deposits.
