STEEN, JAN (1626-1679), 'Innkeeper with pawns playing Tricktrack', Two men playing Tricktrack around a table in the centre. A man leans over the board and watches the two men. Behind them is a man emptying his jug, in the background on the left is a woman smoking a pipe by a fireplace. A dog has curled up next to the group and is sleeping. Shells are scattered on the floor. Oil on canvas, relined. HxW: approx. 42 x 52 cm (HxW of the frame: approx. 61 x 72 cm). Traces of age and rubbing. Craquelure, tears, small losses of colour, restored and retouched. With frame (damage). Remains of a sticker from the frame makers James Bourlet & Sons Ltd, London and a stamp on the reverse. Provenance: Auction house Nagel Stuttgart, 05.12.2002, lot 630.
