Description
Oriental tapestry. AFGHANISTAN, 20th century, approx. 145x86 cm. The so-called ‘Afghan War Carpet’ depicts a ruler in uniform (probably the tribal chief of the Baloch/Chagatai Khan) in full figure, as well as secondary motifs such as animals and weapons on a camel hair-coloured background. The number at the top edge stands for 1325 according to the Persian calendar = 1945/46. The dark blue main border has a geometric pattern. Knotted from high-quality wool on wool. Signs of age and wear, damaged.
