Description
3-piece set of relief plates, UNIQUE, 1970s. Including 1 portrait-format ceramic plate with high relief of a couple in southern German traditional dress against a landscape backdrop with a castle (probably Richard and Elisabeth Märklin), H 35.5 cm, and two wall tiles depicting the first steam locomotive ‘Adler’ including two 1st class passenger cars, two 2nd class cars and a cattle car (cattle transport only from 1939) on the journey from Nuremberg to Fürth (first journey in December 1835). The first Märklin model was created in 1935 to mark the 100th anniversary of the maiden voyage, colourfully decorated and bearing the initials “EM” (Elisabeth Märklin). The tiles were gifts from a couple who were friends of the family (dedication on the back), L 35.5 cm each.
From the estate of Richard and Elisabeth Märklin, owners of Richard Märklin Toys, USA, son and daughter-in-law of Eugen Märklin (co-founder of Gebr. Märklin in Göppingen).
