Head of a Cycladic Idol
Cast artificial stone with a patinated, sandstone-like surface; mounted on a rectangular base of dark polished natural stone. Total height approx. 26.5 cm (to the top of the head). Strongly stylized head in the tradition of the Cycladic marble sculptures of the Late Cycladic period, presumably inspired by the Spedos Type Figurines. The flat, shield-shaped face is articulated solely by the prominent ridge-like nose rendered in relief. The chin is softly rounded, while the forehead terminates in a flat upper contour. The rough, slightly porous surface texture imitates the weathering traces of ancient marble. The sculpture is fixed by means of a discreet metal rod onto a solid dark green-black speckled stone base with beveled edges. Good condition. The surface displays an intentional patina and textured finish. Minimal rubbing to the edges of the base.
