HESS, P., probably PETER HEINRICH VON (P.v.H.: 1792-1871), ‘Szene aus dem Krieg 1813’, 1861, Study of a procession of prisoners and wounded, partly on horseback, signed and dated ‘P. Hess 1861', oil/canvas (on the reverse of the canvas manufacturer's stamp: A. Schutzmann, Munich), hxw: approx. 50x77 cm. Part. damaged (scratches and pressure marks with hole and loss of colour) and in need of restoration, tl.w. Traces/retouches of an old restoration.
SUPPLEMENT 11.3.2025: According to an interested party, this painting is supposed to be the one listed in Brigitte Reinhardt's catalogue raisonné under no. 128. It is labelled here as ‘whereabouts unknown’. It was offered twice in 1942!!! by the Weinmüller auction house, Munich. The dating and the dimensions correspond.
