On the reverse of the panel, inscribed and titled in pencil: Karin LECHLER, 7 Stuttgart-30, Salzburgerstr. 65 (…) “Paulinchen”. The present painting is a charming example of German Naïve painting of the 1970s. It depicts a young girl—presumably the “Paulinchen” mentioned in the title—wearing a blue dress and standing in front of the white entrance door of an intensely blue house. The scene is enlivened by the meticulous rendering of details: from the delicate lace curtains in the windows to the potted plants and the carefully executed cobblestone pavement in the foreground. Lechler employs a reduced perspective and a clear, almost graphic line to create an atmosphere of domestic warmth and childlike innocence. The symmetrical arrangement of the windows and the central placement of the figure lend the composition a calm, almost iconic presence. The artist was based in the Stuttgart region, as evidenced by the address on the reverse (Bad Cannstatt). Color preservation is very good. The profiled black wooden frame with a gilt inner lip is original and shows minor age-related wear.
