Description
20th Century Female Painter 'The Flower Seller'
Oil on panel. Signed lower right “Anke Wiesner?” (uncertain reading). Titled on the reverse. Dimensions: 40 × 30 cm. Framed: 46 × 36 cm. A characteristic work of Naïve painting, distinguished by its strictly symmetrical composition and poetic richness of detail. At the center stands a flower seller beneath a bright red parasol, set within an idealized park scene. Particularly noteworthy is the ornamental stylization of the foliage, rendered in a dense, repetitive rhythm that gives the work an almost textile-like texture. The genre’s typical flattening of perspective is balanced by the precise, selective rendering of the staffage figures—strollers, children, and dogs. The painting captivates with its cheerful palette and the loving meticulousness in its depiction of everyday bourgeois life. Dark spots are visible on the surface of the red parasol. In addition, the work shows localized paint losses, particularly in the area of the parasol and the surrounding tree canopy.
