Description
Incense burner. SATSUMA/JAPAN, around 1900. The rectangular body stands on four tall legs, each carved in the shape of a lion's head. On the sides are two fully sculpted guardian lions serving as handles. The lid (damaged and glued) also features a handle in the shape of a guardian lion. The front and back feature cartouches painted with children at play. Finely painted in the colors of the Satsuma palette and richly decorated with gold. Signs of age and wear, heavily worn, and damaged. H 32 cm.
