Framed in a period profiled, gilded solid wood frame. Framed dimensions: H × W: 28 × 37 cm. Jules Jean Ferry was a specialized French painter of hunting scenes and landscapes in the 19th century, whose work is deeply rooted in the tradition of the Barbizon School. The present atmospheric cabinet study depicts a hunter in a small boat lying in wait for ducks among dense reeds. Particularly noteworthy is the subtle rendering of light conditions and the reflections on the water. Ferry employs a subdued, earthy palette to capture the stillness of the morning and the humid atmosphere of the marshland.
