BADER, VERONIKA (Rottweil 1963-2018) Chess game 'In the global power struggle', 2016, chess table with 32 pieces, whose heads are modeled after contemporary politicians symbolizing the power games in the world. Some of the pieces are made of plaster and painted with oil paints (some have minor chips). Except for Obama and Putin, they are available in a white and a black version. These include Angela Merkel as a 'queen' with a fixed crown and the signature 'V. Bader 2016' on both pieces; Obama as a white piece, also with a crown (loose, traces of glue and paint chips); Salman ibn Abd-al Aziz; Putin as a black piece with a crown (crown loose, traces of glue on the head); Hollande, Netanyahu, Xi Jinping, Cipras?, Erdogan (two pieces?), Rajoy, Cameron (?), Assad (?), Mukherjee, Shinzo Abe, Kim Jong Un and Helmut Kohl as the 'Joker'. Since there is only one Obama and several figures cannot be assigned, it remains unclear whether Putin and Erdogan are present multiple times. The enclosed list was created retrospectively and may not reflect the artist's interpretation. The wooden table consists of a removable top, signed 'V.Bader 2016' and a rectangular box with compartments for the figures. The top with the depiction of the continents symbolizes our conception of the world, the spheres of the table legs are made of stainless steel and copper and symbolize the planets as well as dwindling raw materials. D top 97.5 cm, H 80.5 cm, dimensions of the box 63.5 x 54 cm. The table is deliberately movable, like the movements of the earth. Enclosed are the patent certificates for the individual figures from 2018, along with a booklet containing the artist's biography and statement. There is a certificate from President Trump, but the figure could not be realized due to the artist's untimely death.
