Description
Adolf Amberg (Hanau 1874 – 1913 Berlin), Set of Six Art Nouveau Mocha Spoons from the “Wagner Series”
P. Bruckmann & Söhne, Heilbronn, circa 1903–1905. Eduard Foehr, Stuttgart (court jeweller). Silver 800/1000, spoon bowls gilded on the interior. Hallmarked with “800,” crescent moon & crown, and the manufacturer’s eagle mark. Additionally stamped with the retailer’s mark “FOEHR.” Length: approx. 9.5 cm. Total weight: approx. 50 g. Slim handles that widen towards the top, decorated with relief ornamentation. The decorative panels on the handles depict figural scenes and personifications from Richard Wagner’s music dramas: Das Rheingold, Brünnhilde, Siegfried, Tannhäuser, Venus, and Tristan und Isolde. The reverse of the handles is adorned with a decorative ribbon and stylized eagle-wing motif. Adolf Amberg, primarily known for his “Hochzeitszug” (Meissen), created with the Wagner series for Bruckmann one of the most iconic designs of German Art Nouveau silverware. The additional hallmark of Stuttgart court jeweller Eduard Foehr underlines the exceptional quality and prestigious distribution of this set at the time of its creation. A comparable set is documented in Jochen Amme, Bestecke des Jugendstils (1994). Excellent condition with minimal signs of age. The gilding of the spoon bowls is very well preserved.
