NYMPHENBURG “The Ear”, 20th century, design by Johann F. Lueck, c. 1760, from a series of allegorical figure groups entitled ‘The Five Senses’ for Frankenthal. 'Hearing' depicts a lady playing the cello and a gentleman playing the flute in Baroque attire, polychromed, with a pressed diamond-shaped shield on the plinth and below it, as well as Frankenthal’s blue ‘Carl Theodor’ brush mark; the cello bow is missing; partially worn, H 21 cm.
