Description
FOERSTER, HEIDI (1932) 'Bolivia' 1965
Watercolor on textured paper. 66 x 54 cm (visible dimensions). Signed and dated in reddish-brown at the lower right 'Heidi Foerster (19)65', also titled 'BOLIVIA' and monogrammed 'HF'. Framed under glass. 90/76 cm. In this atmospheric composition, Heidi Foerster translates her impressions of a Bolivian landscape into an almost abstract, flat language of shapes. The artist uses a warm, earthy color palette of ochre, terracotta, and violet tones that brought to life through occasional accents in yellow and pink. Particularly noteworthy is the subtle texturing of the painting surface, in which the artist uses the interplay between transparent paint application and opaque chalk accents to capture the sparse yet vibrant atmosphere of the Andean highlands. In the lower right quadrant, there is a depiction of a grazing animal (likely a llama or alpaca), which, as a figurative element, emphasizes the expanse of the landscape. Freshly preserved. The colors are strong and unfaded. The paper is minimally browned with age.
