MEISSEN 'Goosander', 1924-34, The naturalistically sculpted duck stands on a pedestal with aquatic plants. The design is by Paul Zeiller (1880-1915), the artist's signature is impressed on the back, model number D 206. This particular piece was produced posthumously, during the Pfeiffer era, and has two grinding marks (second choice). It measures 22.5 cm in height and shows slight signs of age.
The artist, known for his animal figures, was severely wounded on the Western Front in June 1915 and died a month later in the field hospital in Bad Ems. He was only 35 years old.
