COURBET, GUSTAVE (1819-1877), 'Paysage Suisse, La Falaise du Jura', an evening forest landscape with a small lake and a resting deer, monogrammed ‘G. C.' (in red letters), oil/canvas doubl., HxW: approx. 60.5x73.5 cm (82x95 cm with frame). Colours of the painting are darkened due to age, restored with retouches, min. colour flaking and rubbing, slight frame impression at the outer edges. With magnificent frame (minimally damaged). VERSO adhesive label with title ‘Paysage Suisse Le Falaise du Jura’ and date: ‘1873 G.C.’. Another old label shows a portrait of the old Gustave Courbet in a round section. INCLUDING PHOTO with handwritten CERTIFICATE by the publicist, historian and art critic Charles Léger (1880-1948) from 1942; titled by Léger: ‘Paysage au Franche-Comté, soleil couchant’. In addition to the expert opinion, confirmation of its authenticity: 1954 by A. Wurster, Munich and confirmed again in 1975 by Dr Hans Geiger (sworn expert for paintings at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce).
