MEISSEN 'Selene and Endymion', c. 1787. Bisque porcelain, model by Christian Gottfried Jüchtzer (1752-1812), depicting a scene from Greek mythology showing the sleeping Endymion (King of Elis) on a rock as Selene turns to him for a kiss, Selene was often equated with Artemis, the goddess of hunting, incised mould no. 'J.8. .', incised triangular mark with sword mark, blue sword mark with 4 grinding strokes, incised 'm.128.J.', h. approx. 29,5 cm, figures with the same depiction are e.g. in the Staatliche Kunstsammlung Dresden and in the Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Cologne. Selene's crescent moon diadem is damaged, as is her right index finger, her right arm is glued, Endymion's neck has a burnt crack, the fingers of his right hand are damaged, missing part on the sole of his right sandal, the rock has a large as well as smaller burnt cracks, originally there was a bow, there are bumps on the stand, partly slightly restored.
