WISCHJAKOW MANUFACTORY “Russian Lacquer Bowl,” late 19th century
Moscow / village of Ostashkovo. Circular form with a slightly raised rim. Papier-mâché, finished in black lacquer. The central surface features a polychrome painting with gold accents depicting a traditional Russian winter troika ride: three people in a sleigh pulled at full gallop by a team of three horses, set against a dark background.
On the underside, the gold-embossed maker’s mark (factory stamp) of the Wischnjakow & Sons manufactory: the imperial double-headed eagle, surrounded by medals from the Moscow Polytechnic Exhibition of 1872. Diameter approx. 22 cm. Condition appropriate to age. The painting shows a pronounced decorative craquelé network. Minor losses to the lacquer at the rim and on the reverse.
