Full-length portrait of a high-ranking Mandarin. CHINA. The high-ranking Chinese official is seated in an official chair lined with tiger skin. He wears his official costume, a costume of the highest dignitaries of the Qing dynasty, a precious dragon robe of dark blue silk, satin and brocade with a stiff lingtou collar. At chest level, his badge of rank is artfully embroidered on a square mandarin cloth. On his head he wears a mandarin winter hat of silk and mink. The tip of the hat is crowned by a precious ruby. Matching the robe and hat, he wears long, drooping chains. At his feet are three Manchurian cranes, symbolizing long life, old age, wisdom and the relationship between father and son. In addition, the Manchurian crane represents the 1st civil official rank in the Qing Dynasty. Fine painting on silk, framed behind glass. HxW: ca. 135,5X80 cm (146,5x89,5 cm with frame) Foxing, torn (from li.top to li bottom edge pulls a tear of about 64 cm through the silk fabric), probably backed possibly laminated.
