Description
Rare silver breast ornament pendant. TEKKE/TURKMENISTAN, early 20th century. Magnificent diamond-shaped breastplate or breast ornament from the Tekke people. It consists of a silver plate with carnelian and glass stones set in oval frames. The ornamental decoration is partly blackened and partly gold-plated using the niello technique. Twenty-seven silver chains hang from the lower edge of the breast ornament, each ending in a silver pendant in the shape of a fish. There are a total of three bell pendants (metal bells) on the outside and in the middle. Engraved date on the back: ‘1334’ (1916). The pendant is attached to a pair of textile decorative ribbons. HxW: 18/35x37.5 cm. Traces due to age.
