PAINTER 19th century, ‘Familie Schleenstein beim Schachspiel’, probably Karl Ernst Justus Viktor Schleenstein (1806-1865) and his wife Maria, née Voigt with son sitting at a gaming table in a salon interior, in the background graphics as wall decoration and a figure of the Hermann monument on a pedestal, watercolour and gouache over pencil/paper mounted on card, HxW: approx. 31x39 cm (42x50 cm with frame). Signs of age, partially slightly curved, browned and slightly stained. With glazed frame (19th century, wood with metal applications on the corners, partially damaged). PROVENANCE: Related descendants of the Schleenstein family. SCHLEENSTEIN was a descendant of the cartographer Johann Georg Schleenstein (1650-1729).
