Description
Joan Miró (1893–1983) “Sculptures”, 1974
Color lithograph on firm wove paper. Signed in the stone lower right: Miró. Visible area approx. 53 × 75 cm (sheet size differs). Good to very good condition. The sheet shows an even, age-related toning of the paper, which underscores the authentic character of the lithograph. In the margins, there are occasional minimal foxing spots and a slight light stain. The colors, however, remain fresh and vibrant. The black printed areas display a rich saturation without abrasion. The work is professionally framed behind glass with a mat; the sheet edges have not been examined for mounting defects. This composition is a characteristic example of Miró’s lyrical late style. He combines his iconic visual language—biomorphic black calligraphic forms reminiscent of dancing figures or celestial bodies—with a vivid palette of primary colors. Particularly noteworthy is the technical execution of the lithograph: the fine splashes of color (splatter effect) lend the composition a dynamic depth and texture, typical of Miró’s engagement with printmaking in the 1970s. The black lines function as an organizing framework, anchoring the floating color elements in space.
