KOEKKOEK, BAREND CORNELIS, 1803-1862, (ATTRIBUTED) ‘Landscape by the River’ circa 1850
Oil on canvas, this tall rectangular painting depicts an idyllic meadow landscape with abundant trees, offering a view of a navigable river, a town and a striking church tower. The atmospheric landscape with spectacular light effects, delicate flora and sophisticated composition is characteristic of Koekkoek's romantic view of nature.
