FREUDIG, DETLEF (1938) 'Group' 1963 / 1967
Oil on wooden panel. 36x35 cm. Titled, monogrammed, and dated on the back of the frame DF 63. On the verso, mounted with an ink drawing (collage) from Heidi Foerster, there again monogrammed and dated HF 67 and with a handwritten dedication: 'So that the family may grow and prosper – as on the front.' Characteristic, stela-like group of figures of post-war modernism in impasto paint application. The verso addition from 1967 connects the artistic motif of the 'Group' with a private occasion (birth of a male heir) and emphasizes the unique character of the object. Frame, HxW: 38/38 cm.
