Rare painting of the god of luck Jurojin. JAPAN, 19th century. Ink and light colors on canvas on cardboard, firmly framed. The old man of long life is a revered deity associated with the seven gods of fortune (Shichi Fukujin). He is the god of wisdom and scholarship, patron saint of science and, in particular, a symbol of long life. He is depicted as a dignified-looking old man. In his hands he holds a staff to which a scroll is attached, on which the age of the people is recorded. Jurojin is accompanied by two children and a monkey holding out a bowl of peaches to him. A bat flies in the background, another symbol of long life. Ink and light colors on canvas on cardboard, age damage, firmly framed: HxW: 103x71 cm, (frame damaged)
