AUSTRIAN WOODEN FIGURE OF A SAINT BISHOP FROM THE 17TH CENTURY.
Coniferous wood, three-quarter round carved, flattened on the back, not original coloured version, on front view designed figure of the saint in episcopal garb standing on a flat plinth in moderate contrapposto, holding a book on his left hand as characteristic attribute, the sculptural effect of the sculpture is especially achieved by the design of the cloak, which is draped voluminously around the body and is characterised by high bridge and bowl folds, H: ca. 75 cm. Minor losses, bishop's crook and book replaced.
